Yemen, Pakistan, Kuwait, OIC and MWL condemn Houthi attacks on Makkah

RIYADH —Yemen, Pakistan and Kuwait, along with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Muslim World League (MWL), strongly condemned the Houthi attacks targeting Makkah. They also expressed solidarity with Saudi Arabia and support for the protection of the Islamic holy sites. In a statement from its Foreign Ministry, Yemen strongly condemned the attempted Houthi drone attack on Makkah, describing it as a violation of Saudi sovereignty, an attack on the sanctity of the Holy Land and a provocation to Muslims around the world. It praised Saudi air defenses for intercepting and destroying the drone south of Makkah before it entered the city’s restricted airspace. Yemen also accused Iran of continuing to support the Houthis and called for a unified Arab, Islamic and international stance to deter the group and end its threats. Meanwhile, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the attempted drone attack on Makkah, saying the people of Pakistan were deeply saddened by the incident. He praised the Saudi Armed Forces’ response and reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and the sanctity of the Two Holy Mosques. Sharif also called for maximum restraint and said dialogue and diplomacy remain the only sustainable path toward peace. Kuwait strongly condemned the attempted Houthi drone attack on Makkah, describing it as a violation of the sanctity of the Muslims’ Qibla and an affront to the sentiments of Muslims. It reaffirmed its absolute solidarity with Saudi Arabia and praised the vigilance and efficiency of Saudi air defenses, stressing that the Kingdom’s security is an inseparable part of the security of Kuwait and the GCC states. The OIC condemned the attacks against Makkah and the Madinah region, saying they endangered civilians, violated the sanctity of holy sites and mosques and provoked the sentiments of Muslims around the world. It said attacks on holy sites, mosques and civilian infrastructure run contrary to Islamic values and international law, while reaffirming full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and backing measures taken by the Kingdom to protect its security, sovereignty and holy sites. Similarly, the Muslim World League strongly condemned the attacks on Makkah and the Madinah region, as well as continued Houthi attacks against Saudi Arabia. MWL Secretary-General Sheikh Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa called on Islamic countries and the international community to condemn the attacks, saying they endangered Muslim lives and holy sites. The MWL reaffirmed its full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and support for measures taken to protect the holy sites and the lives of Muslims.
