Madinah, October 25, 2026, SPA -- The General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque showcased a comprehensive accessibility project for the Two Holy Mosques and their facilities during a workshop attended by representatives of several relevant entities.
The project aims to assess accessibility gaps in the built environment and services and identify architectural and technical solutions to facilitate access to facilities and services for visitors to the Two Holy Mosques, taking into account their diverse abilities and needs.
The workshop presented key figures from the study, including 26,000 working hours involving 20 engineers and experts, 54 days of field observation at the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque, and 49 meetings and workshops. It also reviewed the project's five stages, beginning with the preparatory phase and identification of gaps, followed by design and detailing, and culminating in the tendering stage.
The workshop featured four interactive stations simulating situations encountered by visitors to the Two Holy Mosques. These included finding prayer halls, ablution facilities, and toilets; preparing for prayer; accessing prayer areas, copies of the Quran, and sermons; and dealing with announcements, crowds, and changes to emergency routes. The stations aimed to identify environmental, informational, and procedural challenges and discuss appropriate solutions.
