The Pilgrim’s Journey During Tawaf al-Ifadah: An Integrated System Serving the Guests of Ar-Rahman…

A pilgrim’s journey to perform Tawaf al-Ifadah on the tenth day of Dhul-Hijjah begins from the moment of arrival at the Grand Mosque, where an integrated operational system established by the General Authority for the Care and Management of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque is in place to facilitate the performance of the rite with ease and safety. This is achieved through advanced field and technological services focused on crowd management and the comfort of the Guests of Ar-Rahman. Upon entering the vicinity of the Grand Mosque, pilgrims are welcomed by walking teams deployed throughout the passageways and courtyards. These teams provide guidance and direct pilgrims to the most appropriate routes according to crowd density, while offering immediate assistance and responding to enquiries, thereby facilitating access to the Tawaf Area and the Sa‘i Area. As pilgrims pass through the entrances of the Grand Mosque, the smart counting sensors installed at the gates begin monitoring entry and exit movements in real time. These systems benefit from integration with operational data linked to Nusuk cards, enabling highly accurate determination of the number of pilgrims present within the Grand Mosque. The technological systems analyse this data and compare it with the Tawaf Area’s carrying capacity in accordance with approved crowd-management standards, which are based on an organisational benchmark of four persons per square metre. This ensures the maintenance of smooth movement and prevents overcrowding. Based on these real-time readings, pilgrims are directed to the available Tawaf levels. If crowd density within the Tawaf Area remains within safe limits, access is permitted. When density increases, pilgrims are directed to the upper levels, ensuring balanced crowd distribution and the smooth performance of the rite. After completing Tawaf, pilgrims proceed to the Sa‘i Area through clearly organised routes supported by guidance signs and field guidance teams that facilitate movement between Safa and Marwah within a fully prepared operational environment. Throughout this journey, continuous cleaning and sanitisation operations are carried out within the Grand Mosque by field teams working around the clock to prepare prayer areas and passageways and maintain a high level of readiness, providing pilgrims with a clean and comfortable environment. Zamzam water services are also available through multiple distribution points and drinking stations located throughout the Grand Mosque, ensuring easy access to the blessed water during the pilgrim’s journey. To serve elderly pilgrims, persons with disabilities, and those requiring assistance, the General Authority provides electric and manual cart services through designated booking and service points, enabling all pilgrims to perform their rites with ease and tranquillity. Upon completing Sa’i, pilgrims may benefit from the ‘Umrah completion service through designated locations equipped in accordance with high organisational and health standards, allowing them to complete their rites smoothly and efficiently. This integrated operational journey reflects the level of care provided to the Guests of Ar-Rahman and demonstrates the integration of technical and field efforts that enable pilgrims to perform Tawaf al-Ifadah and Sa’i in a safe, organised, and accessible environment.
