SusTAIN 2026 Conference Opens in Madinah
Madinah, October 08, 2026, SPA -- Madinah Region Governor Prince Salman bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz patronized the opening of the International Conference on Technology and Engineering Innovation for Sustainability (SusTAIN 2026), organized by the University of Prince Mugrin.
University President Dr. Bandar Hajjar highlighted in his keynote address that the three-day conference focuses on sustainability because it aligns with the university's academic priorities—such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and engineering—as well as the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 and urgent global challenges. He emphasized that resolving interconnected issues like climate change, resource security, and urban management demands multidisciplinary scientific collaboration and cross-border partnerships.
Hajjar announced the university's initiative to establish a global city network for innovation in sustainability, envisioned as a collaborative platform linking international scientists, innovators, and decision-makers. He underscored the university's mission to position Madinah as an international intellectual and scientific hub, bolstered by partnerships with leading global institutions and a student body representing 39 nationalities.
The event also featured an address by Acting Director-General of the UNESCO-affiliated International Center for AI Research and Ethics in Riyadh Dr. Majid Al-Shehri, who stressed the urgency of deploying responsible AI to drive measurable societal impact.
