In a scene overflowing with pride and honour at the advent of the new Hijri year, the Noble Ka‘bah was draped in its new Kiswah for the year 1448 AH. This majestic display embodied the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's unwavering care for the most sacred place on earth and highlighted the remarkable excellence and mastery achieved by the nation's sons in crafting one of the greatest masterpieces of Islamic artistry. The changing of the Kiswah was far more than a recurring annual ceremony; rather, it was a national success story in which 150 Saudi craftsmen and artisans took part. They dedicated their expertise and skills over the course of eleven months to produce 47 pieces of luxurious black silk, embroidered with 30 Qur'anic ayat using gold-plated silver threads. The total weight of the Kiswah is 1,410 kilograms. The production of the Kiswah undergoes seven meticulously executed stages, beginning with water purification and the washing of the silk, followed by weaving, inscription, embroidery, assembly, and inspection, before being transported on a specially designed trailer that safeguards this unique Islamic heritage until it reaches the Ka‘bah-Level Tawaf Area at the Grand Mosque. This majestic scene reflects the care and attention that the Kingdom devotes to the Two Holy Mosques through an integrated system that combines the authenticity of Islamic craftsmanship with modern technologies. It also showcases the competence of the national workforce, whose efforts contribute to the production of this exceptional work, which touches the hearts of Muslims throughout the world and renews within them the meanings of Iman, unity, and attachment to Islam’s most sacred sanctuary.
